Art In Progress
East to west, north to south, you’ll find artists painting their festival murals in neighbourhoods across the city. In this beautiful sunny weather, it’s fun to walk safely outside and watch these artists plot and paint their walls. The Vancouver Mural Festival app is helpful in showing you how close you are to new or existing murals.
For this weekend’s eye spy, we wandered about South Granville. Our header features a photo of a mural in progress – Summer In The Garden – created by Vancouver artist Sean Jantzi. ‘Vancouver residents,’ he explains, ‘often find themselves longing for the warm respite of those few summer weeks when the sun burns through the clouds and turns everything to gold. This mural is a celebration of those magical days that glow hot and allow us to experience the best our city has to offer while leaving those wet winter months behind.’
We look forward to revisiting Summer in the Garden when it is done. Some other murals in progress…

We’ll return and re-post when these murals are done. In the meantime, you can check out completed South Granville murals from other years. The striking piece below – Ultraviolet – was created by painter Drew Young, who also happens to be Curator and Artistic Director for the Vancouver Mural Festival.
‘The intersection of the growing tech sector against the backdrop of Vancouver’s nature-rich environment has been a very informative narrative for the work,’ Young says.
You can admire Ultraviolet head-on at West 13th on the west side of Granville, where the street has been blocked off with chairs and tables for outdoor snacking.
