i. I work as a jeweller. I am a goldsmith who works in silver. I also use natural gemstones that are ethically cut.
ii. I do this creative work because:
I love working with my hands. I love observing the beautiful world around me and incorporating the new into my designs.
iv. The greatest challenge around doing this work is:
Self doubt. I think many artistic entrepreneurs feel this at times.
v. Creative childhood hobbies were:
Making jewelry and drawing. My family wasn’t surprised when I decide to make and sell jewelry for a living.
vi. Other creators who inspire you:
I’m so lucky and honoured to be surrounded by some talented artisans and creators. A few creators that inspire me Heidi the Artist, Terri from Recreation and Ashleigh Amber Moore.
vii. Training that has helped me succeed in this career:
I have not been formally trained as a jeweller. I actually studied Biology in university. I took a silversmith course at a local shop in Vancouver. I also research and study different work from art and jewelry books and online resources.
viii. The biggest myth about this type of work is:
That you have to stick to one medium or one style. I love exploring and experimenting with different styles and techniques. I think it makes me a better and diverse artist.
ix. Some proud career moments are:
Getting recognized as an ethical maker. I’ve worked really hard to uphold standards, to find amazing artisans and creators to who make amazing raw materials (gemstones and fabric) from around the world.
x. If you want to work in my field, I suggest that you:
Start using your hands, continue to learn and be open to feedback.
xi. A professional goal I have for the future:
Is to continue to evolve and grow as an artist. I would love to learn new, more complex techniques. I would love to share my art with all of Canada and USA.
