Beautiful, Beautiful BC
It may be hot – really, just so hot – in parts of B.C. right now. But, the songbirds are singing up a storm, and the province could not be more beautiful. For all those in the province: hope you have a wonderful, safe BC Day Long Weekend.
Perhaps, you’ll be donning this tartan as you paddle out in your kayak. Why?
This is B.C.’s official tartan, designed by Victoria’s Earl K. Ward in 1967, and officially adopted by the province in 1974. Each colour in the tartan represents a signature aspect of British Columbia:
i. White is for our official flower: the Pacific Dogwood
ii. Green is for our vast B.C. forests.
iii. Blue is for the Pacific Ocean
iv. Red is for the Canadian maple leaf
v. Gold is for the sun we usually crave, and the crown in the B.C. flag.
Our other BC provincial symbols include:
The white-coated Spirit or Kermode Bear
Western Red Cedar
Lucas Mitchell. Horseshoe Bay Terminal (at some magical, quiet time 🧐)
Richard Main. Rocky Mountains
Pamela Saunders. Whistler
Gabrielle Mustapich. Tofino
Ben Breitenstein. Nelson
Matthias Mullie. Garibaldi Lake
Simone Scholten. Colwood
How lucky we are to live in such beautiful surroundings. Have fun, and stay cool!
