A Day For Canoli
Happy Italian Day! On Sunday June 10th, from 12 to 8 pm, Vancouver will celebrate Italian Day on Commercial Drive, aka Little Italy.

Just in time for Italian Day 2016, the City of Vancouver made it official. Commercial Drive – from 4 blocks north of 1st Avenue to 4 blocks south – would hereby be known as Little Italy.
There will be no shortage of sweets available in regular eateries and special event food trucks. Check out the amazingness from The Canoli King.

As you wander the Drive, do take a peek into Fratelli Bakery. It’s hard to narrow down the deliciousness, but we join the chorus of raves for the jalapeño and cheese filone, the cream puff cake and some more wicked, wicked canoli.

This popular bakery was opened in 1997 by Marco Cornale and his brother – hence the name ‘Fratelli’ or ‘brothers.’ Marco took full ownership of the bakery after 4 years and continues to run it with other family members.
“My mother actually still comes in once a week and does her baking for the bakery,” Cornale explained in the following Optik video. ” She makes her panettone for the bakery every week.”

Be prepared to hem, haw and bring home more than you intended. No need to cook with the Tony Awards on tonight. In the interim, check out the link below for the wide variety of Italian Day events across the city.
Buon Appetito!
