Corner Market Peonies

“Roses as big as cabbages.” So said Marco Polo when he first saw peonies.

These glorious flowers – the 12th anniversary flower, seen to represent good fortune and a happy marriage – are now beautifully in Vancouver season.

If you’re looking for some perfect peonies – nestled with other blooms or sticking to themselves –  a few corner markets around town offer Marco Polo-worthy specimens. Kits Market, at 1st and Yew, is one great example. Another, pictured here, is Southland Farm Market at 41st and Mckenzie Street. This family-run business is a secret source for flower people across the city.
