‘Adoptions now open!’

So writes the wildly imaginative artist and award-winning children’s book illustrator, Dianna Bonder.

Bonder is referring to her latest creations: ‘Four Fab Frenchies’. ‘These furry freaks’, she tells us, ‘are now up for adoption (for a fee)’.

The first-born, as you’ll see above, came out blue.

‘Love love loved creating these guys,’ Bonder adds. ‘I have never taken so much pleasure in the process as I have with these guys’.

Collectors have similarly fallen in love, and are rushing to bring said Frenchies home from the Gabriola Thanksgiving Studio Tour.

After wandering down the much be-signed path, visitors are also marvelling at Bonder’s other painted and sculpted works. As another tour artist says: “I want to be inside her head”.

If you happen to be on Gabriola Island for the Tour, Bonder’s studio is open today and tomorrow. She is otherwise represented by Gallery Merrick in Victoria.
