Kandinsky. Around The Circle

It’s hard not to hear the music when you wander from one Kandinsky painting to the next. ‘Colour,’ he said, ‘is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.’

New York’s Guggenheim museum has an extraordinary collection of Kandinskys. Until September 5th, 2022, you’ll be able to see 80 of them – paintings, illustrated books, watercolors, woodcuts – in Vasily Kandinsky: Around The Circle.

These works are on view – in reverse chronological order – as you wind your way up the Guggenheim’s spiral rotunda. A small sampling of the works you’ll see …
