Marpole Mural

How many of these books do you recognize? How many have you read?

Marpole books

These are book titles successfully suggested by the Vancouver public for READ ME – a mural now complete at the Marpole Public Library. It is a community artwork created by youth volunteers, artist Ashley Guindon and her team.

READ ME was supported by the City of Vancouver’s Neighbourhood Matching Fund, the Marpole BIA, Joy Kogawa House and the Vancouver Public Library. The mural is designed to celebrate books and encourage reading.

Right across from the Library, as 67th leaves Granville, you will see the Leaves and Fishes mural painted right on the road. This representation of the local flora and fauna was the winning submission from Briea Mainwaring and some of her fellow Emily Carr students. The group used non-toxic ecological paint.

You’ll find another on-street mural, Fractal by Emily Carr student Alejandro Quinteros and his team, one block north on 66th. The road murals were sponsored by the City of Vancouver’s VIVA Vancouver program.
