Sarah Edmonds

i. We work as artists/designers.
~ ‘We’ is Sarah Edmonds and Tammy Lawrence of Banquet Workshop.~

ii. We do this creative work because we love to make things.

iii. Personal qualities that help me in my work are perseverance, perfectionism, joy and gratitude.

iv. The greatest challenges around doing this work are trying to keep it hands on and in check. The beast wants to grow, needs to be fed, and sometimes bites back.

v. Creative childhood hobbies were endless, always making, always getting my hands dirty. I drew paper dolls, did loads of community centre ceramics, and  sold hand painted tea cozies at craft sales.

vi. Other creators who inspire me.
Love our brilliant network of smart, savvy and creative women here in Vancouver and couldn’t function fully without them. In the bigger picture and always changing, Agnes Martin, Florine Stettheimer, Gunta Stölzl, Marthe Armitage, Carmen Herrera, Susan Collier and Sarah Campbell, Elena Ferrante, Ellen Galager, Mona Kowalska.

vii. Training has helped me succeed in this career ABSOLUTELY. For me, self-discipline doesn’t come easy. I’m a great procrastinator, but having the courage and discipline to make this my job came from having great teachers.

viii. The biggest myth about this type of work is it’s all creative.

ix. If you want to work in my field, I suggest that you figure out where you want to go and work backwards to sort how to get there. Also be prepared to make mistakes.

x. A professional goal I have for the future: We love to try new things, jewelry, textiles, notebooks are just the beginning. We just want to keep making awesome things for families everywhere.

xi. If you want to see my work, go to!
