‘And the secret garden bloomed and bloomed and every morning revealed new miracles.’
The Secret Garden author Frances Hodgson Burnett and her petulant young protagonist, Mary Lennox, might also be intrigued by the miraculous sweets revealed each morning at The Secret Garden Tea Company.
This Kerrisdale favourite – now in its 21st year and run by the sisters-in-law Wyder – has moved to a new, fancier location, around the corner on 40th Avenue. The bright new space offers plenty of room, and the breakfast, lunch and high tea crowds are flocking in.
The iced cookie designs are pretty with a timely twist: Thanksgiving, Dia de los Muertos, Halloween, Christmas. The gorgeous cookies – shown below and in our header – are decorated by artist Natania Swart.
The high tea and takeaway treats are ever-delicious.
And you can sweeten your tea in high style.
Lysanne Sweeney, whom we profiled last year, is the talented Head Pastry Chef at the Secret Garden Tea Company.
