Sun Xun

“Art keeps people curious.” So says artist Sun Xun in a Guggenheim Museum video focused on his Mythological Time exhibit. “It provides you with the possibility to subvert a preexisting social order, in a relatively gentle way. While much of my work indeed has a lot to do with history, you nonetheless realize that one’s own memory and consciousness are both intriguing black holes. Your memory can deceive you.”

Sun Xun’s Mythological Time exhibit is now on display at the Vancouver Art Gallery until September 6th, 2021 . ‘In his highly imaginative video installation Mythological Time (2016),’ we read. ‘Sun takes viewers on a journey through his hometown of Fuxin in northern China, a coal-mining centre facing the depletion of its economic lifeblood.’
