Does it rain in Vancouver? Who wants to know? Not if the past few days have been any indication.
For those days when we forget our liberal skies, the Vancouver Convention Centre offers a steely reminder. The Drop is the blue steel creation of Inges Idee, a collaboration of four German artists: Hans Hemmert, Axel Lieber, Thomas A. Schmidt and Georg Zey. It is 65 feet tall and 8 feet in diameter.
This giant, falling raindrop arrived by truck to North Vancouver, where it was sent over by barge to its current location in the Bon Voyage Plaza. “It stands like a figure head on a ship,” say the artists.
We hear from Lieber and Zey about the creation and installation of their Drop.
