The Streets Of Rome

What it must be like to live a day to day life in Rome. Need to get cheese – ho hum, there’s the Coliseum. High sprint to work – wretched Pantheon crowds.

Our visitor eyes scan like dragonflies, afraid of turning the wrong way at the wrong time. Rome, we hear, was built on Seven Hills: Aventine, Caelian, Capitoline, Esquiline, Palatine, Quirinal, Viminal.  At some point, you too might have memorized their names through the well-trodden mnemonic: ‘Can Queen Victoria Eat Cold Apple Pie?’ Not included are hills like Vatican, Janiculum that lie beyond the initially crowned seven.

Here’s to all the architects, builders, artists and craftsmen who created this astonishing drive-through museum.
