Three Divas At Versailles
Ready to escape to some over the top gilded, crystalline, light-flooded beauty? Look no further than the Hall of Mirrors at Chateau de Versailles. 357 mirrors sit atop 17 window-facing arches. Looking down on the splendour are 30 gloriously painted scenes by Charles Le Brun, First Painter to King Louis XIV. The subject? Louis’ initial 18 years of reign, starting in 1661.
Now to similarly fete the ears, add three world-renowned opera divas: sopranos Ailyn Pérez and Nadine Sierra, and mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard. Accompanied by pianist Vlad Iftinca and guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas, they will be performing from Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles, the 250 year old theatre most famously celebrated for Marie Antoinette’s wedding to Louis VI.
At this Saturday, May 22nd concert, you’ll hear beauties like: ‘Crudele? … Non mi dir’ from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, ‘Me llaman la primorosa’ From Giménez’s El Barbero de Sevilla, ‘En medio a mis colores’ (Canzonetta spagnuola) by Gioachino Rossini …
The concert is presented by New York’s Metropolitan Opera. According to the site, tickets are $20 and the concert will be available online for 14 days.
