Art Wrapped
Utility boxes are there to do the job: keep the circuits, cables, electrical devices and connections safe from interlopers. But, who’s to say they have to be that same boring green, block after block? In 2015, Vancouver started a Public Art program where artists could apply – and winners would be paid – to create designs to wrap these utilitarian receptacles in art.
In April of 2016, a new call for artists went out. Here’s to many more years of beautifying these boxes that keep us warm and in communication with each other.
You will find similar programs on the Gulf Islands and across the province.
