Vancouver Queer Film Festival ’22
Vancouver’s Pride Parade – congratulations to all who participated this weekend! – is known across the world. For the rest of the summer, you’ll find other special 2SLGBTQIA+ events throughout the city.
From August 11th through 21st, it’s the Vancouver Queer Film Festival which will present ~ 97 films, both in person and online. These films come from local artists and filmmakers across 20 countries. You’ll also find parties, special events, workshops..
The theme for VQFF this year? ‘Make It Yours’, which encourages audiences to embrace ’empathy and a reminder of the tools and powers that are accessible to us in the fight for our personal and collective freedom.’
Our header photo features a still from one of the VQFF 2022 films: ‘Neptune Frost’ – an Afrofuturist sci-fi musical, directed by Saul Williams, and Anisia Uzeyman. On his website, Williams writes: ‘Neptune Frost is the love story between an intersex runaway, a coltan miner and the virtual marvel born as a result of their union’.
In order to raise funds to finish this film – set in Rwanda – Williams wrote:
‘Dear Space Force: I have been writing a musical. A musical that combines all of my interests in language, storytelling, technology, fashion, history, music, and rebellion. It’s called Neptune Frost and I need your help to finish it…’
The resulting list of producers for the film includes Lin Manuel Miranda and noted American artist, Kara Walker.
Neptune Frost is schedule to play Saturday, August 13th at 1:30 pm, at the VIFF Vancity Theatre. Do check the link below for details and Content Advisories.
