Where Do We Go From Here?
The Vancouver Art Gallery is now envisioning what the next generations of their collection will look like as we move deeper into the 21st Century. Part of that future focus is a new exhibit running until May 30th, 2021: Where do we go from here?
The exhibit was created by six members of the VAG’s curatorial department and guest curator, Nya Lewis of BlackArt Gastown. Where do we go from here, we read, ‘developed as an opportunity to consider the Gallery’s own collecting and exhibition history. Reflecting on the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Gallery in 1931, this exhibition both acknowledges the under-representation of African diasporic artists in our collection and exhibitions, which has historically privileged European art traditions, and reimagines how the next 90 years of programming can better represent Canada’s art landscape.’
